The Hybren expeller technology

The Hybren oil expellers are the result of substantial research and development, were we deliberately ignored inputs from existing expeller technology. The reason for this approach is, that if you look too much at existing technology, what you will get as a result of your efforts, is a technology, which performs pretty much like everything else. Or to quote Konfutse: If you follow the footsteps of the one in front of you, you will never get ahead".

The downside to this off course, is that it takes more time, more money and more testing to get there. But the strategy has paid off, resulting in a line off expellers with unique performance, as described in the following.

Hybren expellers are screw type, an ancient, well proven principle, that still proves its worth. It's simple, robust and can be produced at reasonable cost, which suits the Hybren product vision.

Even though it's a simple principle, or maybe because of just that, the design details has great influence on the performance of the machine. You can find expellers with high energy consumption, low oil yield, and poor oil quality, and you can find the opposite, even though it's the same principle. All as a result of customer demand, design philosophy and the designers understanding of the expelling process.

Power consumption

A machine designed for continuous operation will typically be running long hours, if correctly dimensioned for the actual need.

Long periods of nonstop production will give the best results, when it comes to oil yield and quality. This is because a warm expeller produces a cleaner oil and better oil yield than a cold one.

In economical terms, it's not recommendable to invest in equipment that will cover the needed production in f.ex. 1 hour of daily production, doing so will extend the payback time for the investment beyond reasonable limits.

Therefore, it is of great importance, that the power consumption is not larger than necessary. A very low power consumption is one of the things that characterizes all Hybren models of expellers.

Quality of the expelled oil

The quality of the expelled plant oil depends on the quality of the seed supplied to the expeller. The best oil quality is achieved by using the best raw material, as in all ways of production. This means pure, dry and not too old seed, that has been stored correctly.

Having said that, the design of the expeller also has great influence on the achieved result of the process. The more power used for expelling the oil, the more impurities, physical and chemical are usually found in the oil. This is caused by the large internal friction, which will produce excessive heat in the expeller, which again will result in phosphorus levels higher that allowed for standard vegetable oil motor fuels.

This is the main reason why cold pressed vegetable oil is suitable for fuel, while "warm pressed" plant oil contains large amounts of phosphorus, which will destroy the diesel engine in time.

Another effect, resulting in physical impurities in the oil, is the mechanical treatment of the seed, where the pressure in the expeller in some cases will be as high as 500 Bar (7250 PSI). Hence, a design that expelles a high amount of oil at a lower pressure, will produce less physical impurities.

The Hybren line of expellers produces a very high quality oil, at high yields, and with a documented long shelf life of wear parts, indication an optimal internal pressure in the expellers.
They are designed to facilitate high level of user friendliness, and service is usually performed by the end user, supported by the Hybren staff. Standard wear parts are in stock for day to day shipment.
